| Natalie Sophia Lotriet - Artist
Natalie has shown an interest in art from a very young age. As soon as she was able to pick-up a crayon and scribble, Natalie drew pictures at every opportunity; sometimes driving her family crazy with the constant noise of a pencil making its mark on the page.
In 1989, Natalie's family immigrated to Australia where she began secondary school at Morley Senior High school, Morley, Western Australia. It was during these few years that Natalie received numerous awards in recognition of her artistic abilities; certainly the most renowned was winning a National Design Competition in 1994 when she designed a logo for a professional company called Trade Match (an international trading corporation).
Wishing to pursue Art as a career, Natalie began studies at Curtin University in 1995, where she studied Graphic Arts. Becoming increasingly frustrated by the limitation of her creativity imposed upon her by the "computer", she made the decision to defer her studies in 1997 and headed for Africa to broaden her horizons.
Having travelled, Natalie returned to Perth with a renewed artistic flair and fresh stimulus. Natalie admits to drawing on inspiration from these travels which are evident in her stunningly colourful canvasses.
Natalie predominantly uses acrylics and charcoal when she works, however is not limited to these mediums. From drawing intricate versions of reality to abstract interpretations of nature, Natalie's work is certainly diverse. Each piece is carefully planned and thought out to create a balance between colour and texture ensuring that they do not overpower each other. Natalie's style is realistic and her emphasis on detail is what has become her trademark. With no formal art education, Natalie's ability is truly a gift that she has been blessed with.
