Patrick SHIRVINGTON

Born in Sydney in 1952

Shirvington began painting full time in 1975.  He has travelled through Europe and USA, undertaking drawing class in Paris at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere.  He has had many solo and group exhibitions including invitations to exhibit in prestigious competitions, including The Fleurieu Biennale and The Archibald Prize.  Shirvington’s work is represented in many corporate and private collections.   He has been artist in residence at Arthur Boyd Studio, Bundanoon and Trinity Grammar School.

Patrick endeavours to present in his paintings the essence of the landscape and evoke feelings that our senses and our unconscious are aware of, but sometimes miss.  From the flicker or light creating abstract patterns to the detail of a bird going about its daily chore, to the background chorus of bush symphonies.  Being loyal to the landscape, he is always moving into new territory from the subtle studies of a fragile microcosm of his environment to the large symphonic interpretation of the ever changing seasons. He works with both oil on canvas and watercolour mixed media.
